Community design resources

A sampling of resources I create and maintain for the design community.

I'm passionate about mentorship and making free resources for the design community. I tend to focus on practical, real-world advice that I've developed over my years in design, and release it via files on Figma Community.

So far, I've released 4 files that have been downloaded a combined 15,000+ times. I love the feeling of sharing what I know, particularly with designers who are new to the field.

You can view my Figma Community profile at figma.com/@oe.

The Interview Kit

Recording of theinterviewkit.com.

My biggest resource so far: a comprehensive guide to getting a job in product design, filled with practical tips, real examples, and tons of inspiration.

I spent months writing 8 chapters on interviewing for product design roles–researching, talking with recruiters & designers, and designing the entire guide.

I designed and coded theinterviewkit.com from scratch to promote the resource.

The Interview Kit is laid out into 8 main chapters.
Nearly every page is packed with visuals and real examples.
I made plenty of illustrations and diagrams to help explain concepts.

Additional resources

Portfolio presentations for product designers: a visual guide with real examples to help designers learn to present their work.

My most popular resource – a visual guide to portfolio presentations.
Part of the guide, focused on making an impactful intro.

Design system documentation kit: a framework & template for documenting systems

Auto layout table kit: my first community resource, focused on best practices for making tables in Figma.

In addition to creating resources for early-career designers, I enjoy mentoring in and out of work. I'm currently mentoring a junior designer at work and have participated in a mentorship program at the University of Washington for a number of years.
